AURORA, Colo. — Thirteen months after the Aurora theater shooting, some members of the Aurora Fire Department are expressing their frustration about not being allowed to discuss publicly the events of July 20th, 2012.
The shooting, which killed twelve people and injured seventy more, has created strong emotions for many first responders while at the same time a gag order has stopped many people from sharing their experiences. A modified gag order was issued in 2013 that allows some details to be discussed but the Aurora Fire Department continues to ask it’s members not to discuss the shooting.
“We need to learn, we need to learn from the things we could have done better,” said Randy Rester, president of the Aurora firefighters union. Rester spoke with FOX31 Denver on Monday to discuss the growing frustration with some firefighters who believe they should be able to speak out about the tragedy.
“We’re carrying around a lot of baggage it needs to be dealt with it,” added Rester.
