Baby Elephant Weeps When Separated From Mother

  • Shortly after Zhuang-zhuang was born at the Shendiaoshan wild animal reserve in Rong-cheng, China, his mother stepped on him, according to the Metro U.K. The staff hoped it was an accident, but after treating Zhuang-zhuang's injuries and returning him to his mother, she attacked him again.
For his own safety, keepers separated the two. But Zhuang-zhuang, unable to understand what was happening, just wanted to be with his mother.

"The calf was very upset and he was crying for five hours before he could be consoled," said a worker at the reserve. "He couldn't bear to be parted from his mother."  Sadly, there is nothing keepers can due to make Zhuang-zhuang' mother "unreject" him. They will need to stay apart.
Now the keeper who saved Zhuang-zhuang is continuing to care for him. A spokesman for the park said that the pair are forming a good bond.
