A mom’s letter to her gay son after his Facebook post coming out has gone viral, and the touching note is a sweet example of motherly love. The mom’s letter to her son as she learns he is gay is heartfelt and a nice example of what parenting should ideally be.
Also, in typical mom fashion, the note quickly moves to chide the teen for a messy bedroom. Really. In the note, posted by Michelle Conway McClain to her Facebook page, the mom begins by telling son Zach that his revelation is fine with her and changes nothing.
She says:
“Zach, I was surprised by your Facebook post where you came out. I want you to know that I love you unconditionally. I love you with my actions, not just my words. I’m so proud of you.”
McClain continues:
“You are the bravest person I know. I’ll fight for you always. Your sexual orientation does not define you. You are still the boy who forever won my heart.”
Then, amusingly, she tells Zach she does have a bone to pick with him, concluding:
“The only thing that concerns me is the number of empty soda cups and tea bottles in your room. Throw them away before ants come inside. I love you always, Mom.”
In her post, the mom says of her son that she hadn’t gotten a chance to mention it in person, so she left a note where he’d see it:
“I didn’t get to talk to him before I left for work today, so I left this on his bedroom door.”
