WHO: 15% adults aged 60 and over have mental disorders

Thursday marks World Mental Health day. It's World Federation of Mental Health's initiative and is supported by the World Health Organization to raise public awareness about psychological problems and diseases around the globe.

This year’s theme is "Mental health and older adults."

According to WHO, approximately 15 percent of adults worldwide aged 60 and over are suffering from a mental disorder and the most common neuropsychiatric disorders in this age group are dementia and depression.

Meanwhile, young people are also facing major challenges around the world. Ten to twenty percent of children and adolescents are experiencing mental disorders.

In China, authorities say more than 100 million people are suffering from psychological diseases, with around 16 million in a severe condition.
