LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A crew cleaning the home of a dead man discovered various bones and occult objects in Lakewood last week, police confirmed Monday.
The cleaners had been hired by a realtor to prepare a house in the 1200 block of Kline Street for sale. Upon exploring the property on Oct. 17, the cleaners called police to report finding what they believed were human remains.
Officers searched the property, including a shed, and found bones and occult items including chains, candles, bottles, a machete and a crucifix, the Lakewood Police Department reported. Some of the bones were obviously animal, but others appear to be human in origin. A DNA lab will test them and attempt to identify where they came from, police said. The process could take weeks and could prove very difficult.
The home’s previous owner moved away 15 years ago and has since died. He was “quite possibly an occultist,” investigators reported. Some of the items were dusty and dirty, leading investigators to believe they haven’t been touched in years, although one of the dead man’s relatives lived in the home as recently as several months ago.
Police do not believe the house was the scene of a crime at this time.
