Different Cultures And Sensitivity

Dunkin Donuts has raised the ire of many folks around the planet for the fact that contains a woman in black-face makeup and pink lips.  Despite the outcry, Dunkin Donuts does not show an indication of backing down from their decision not to remove the ad.  I am in agreement with them here.  While I do understand that black-face characters are objectionable to many blacks and civil rights activists, this commercial was simply not made with any malice or ill-intent.  View the video for your self here, and then you can make your own decision:

I personally have no bias toward blacks in general.  I have some very good friends who are black.  To me this commercial makes no sense.  It is strange.  It's weird.  But that is my opinion based on my perspective from being raised in the midwestern USA my entire life.  We in this country have seemingly become too overly
hyper-sensitive and far too politically correct.  My advice to the critics of this Dunkin Donuts ad is to sit back, relax and have a drink.  Learn to laugh at stupid commercials like this one.  The vast majority of commercials in the USA are bland and unclever (is that a word?)  Advertising agencies spend a lot of time and money designing them so as not offend anyone.  Other countries are not like this.  They are not prudish and correct.

As a M-F transsexual, I have some expertise on the issues of profiling and bias.  My golly, when I began living 24/7/365 as a female, I unknowingly put myself in a small minority of transsexual in this community.  And where I may get sensitive at times when the need arises, I can also laugh at a good joke about people like me.  Life is simply too short to be so uptight.

To highlight the differences between cultures, here is a Thai commercial that you will never see on out television stations--for reasons obvious when you view it:
