((i'm happy not everyone in iowa is this bright.....but i have seen this myself before. i used to smoke, an one of my earlier posts explained, and i am also on home oxygen because of it. i enjoyed smoking a lot, but i'm paying for my stupidity now))
Des Moines firefighters responded to an apartment building in the 1100 block of Crocker Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.
The fire was contained to one apartment and was started by one of the apartment’s occupants smoking a cigarette while on home oxygen, fire officials said.
Both occupants suffered from smoke inhalation and the person smoking a cigarette had burn injuries. That person was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics burn unit.
The fire was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. The damage to the building is estimated at $20,000 and damage to personal belongings was about $2,000.
This is the third fire this year in Des Moines related to smoking while on home oxygen, officials said.
