45-day-old baby panda reunited with its mother

The Taipei Zoo has released footage of its female baby panda "Yuan Zai" being reunited with her mother Yuan Yuan.

Yuanzai turns 45 days old on Tuesday. She has grown to over 2 kilograms, since being born at less than 200 grams. She also opened both of her eyes last weekend. The cub was taken away from her mother shortly after birth to avoid accidental injury.

Two experts from the Chinese mainland have been working with local staff to take care of the cub. Yuan Zai’s birth created a sensation in Taiwan. It came after four years of trying through artificial insemination, using sperm from the only male giant panda at the zoo, Tuan Tuan.
