Wireless WildCat Robot Run On Various Terrain Surfaces [Video]

In 2012 a Cheetah robot that could run 29 miles per hour was created, unfortunately the robot needed to be tethered to a power supply.

Fast forward one year later and the team at Boston Dynamics have unveiled the Wireless WildCat Robot.  The machine is an upgraded wireless version of the Cheetah which runs at a top speed of 16 mph. The robot is nearly half the speed of the original which isn’t bad considering its wireless capabilities.

((WildCat is a four-legged robot being developed to run fast on all types of terrain. So far WildCat has run at about 16 mph on flat terrain using bounding and galloping gaits. The robot can run freely at the controlled hands of a developer which is a huge step in the right direction.  On the groups YouTube channel the video has racked up more than 501,000 views since going live less than 24 hours ago.

The video posted above shows the WildCat robot running in a parking lot. The WildCat uses “bounding and galloping gaits” and can run on all types of flat terrain.
The robot cats motor is pretty loud but it makes up for the noise by cutting turns and running straight lines.

The WildCat is funded by DARPA’s maximum mobility and manipulation program. That program asks company’s to create robots that can naturally move around on natural surfaces.
