A group of students in central Arkansas had a rocky start to their day when a knife-wielding man boarded a public school bus and took the wheel.
Police pursued the suspect in a 10-mile chase, from Jacksonville to Cabot, after the Arkansas school bus was hijacked Thursday morning while it was in transit to Pinewood Elementary School, CNN reports.
Fortunately, police were able to stop the bus, which was carrying 11 elementary school students and a driver, after about 20 minutes. No one was injured.
Jacksonville officers arrested 22-year-old Nicholas John Miller after the incident, CBS affiliate THV 11 reports. He faces charges of vehicle piracy, 12 counts of kidnapping -- one count for every person on the bus -- and two counts of aggravated assault. Miller reportedly has a history of run-ins with police.
Authorities said Miller hijacked the bus after he demanded a car from a woman who did not have a vehicle.
"That's when he ran and jumped on the bus," Jacksonville Police Department Capt. Kenny Boyd told Arkansas Online. However, investigators do not know why the bus was hijacked.
A passing driver posted footage of police pursuing the hijacked school bus down an Arkansas highway.
