The capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had some people wondering what happened with the owner of the boat the Boston Bomber hid within. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev requested some of his prison restrictions be lifted and the sister of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested and released without bail recently.
David Henneberry was the man who found Dzhokhar Tsarnaev curled up in his boat. Initials reports claimed Henneberry tracked the Boston Marathon bomber into his backyard by following a blood trail leading into the boat.
But Mr. Henneberry says the legend of the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has outgrown reality:
“If I had seen blood out there, I wouldn’t have investigated it. I’m not crazy.”
Instead, David Henneberry says he was waiting in his house with everyone else while the police scoured the area for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It was a windy day and the protective padding over his boat had fallen down and “it was driving him nuts.” When the police lockdown was lifted he immediately went to fix it.
But when he peered inside the boat that’s when he spotted the blood of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. He scrambled down the boat ladder and called out to his wife, saying, “He’s in the boat! He’s in the boat!”
When police arrived they used gunfire and stun grenades to take down Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, riddling the boat with bullet holes in the process. Mr. Henneberry recalls being scared that they’d ignite the 40 gallons of fuel in the boat.
Unfortunately, the insurance company only covered $1,000 for the boat Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was hiding in. The FBI also didn’t compensate the Henneberry’s for the seized evidence being held until the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Fortunately, the story of the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev ends well for the Henneberry’s. An online campaign donated $50,000 to replace the boat and now the couple just wants the drama to go away:
“[The media attention] just goes on and on. We just want it to go away.”
